English: American soldier guarding a Heinkel He 162 Volksjäger. It is not clear where the picture was taken. The Heinkel He 162 was a German single engined, jet powered fighter aircraft fielded by the Luftwaffe in WWII. Designed and built quickly, and made primarily of wood it was nevertheless the fastest of the first generation of Axis and Allied jets. It was called Volksjäger,Salamander or Spatz ("Sparrow").
This He 162 "White 4" of fighter unit JG1 was captured by British troops at Leck in Northern Germany. 3 He 162 were subsequently brought to Kassel. Originally, it was planned to take these jets to the US for evaluation. Picture in the possession of my grandfather Jan B.H.A. Vervloedt since the aftermath of the liberation of Belgium, photo now in the family archives. Nederlands: Amerikaan soldaat die een Heinkel He 162 Volksjäger bewaakt. Het is niet duidelijk waar de foto genomen is. De Heinkel He 162 was een eenmotorig straalvliegtuig dat door de Luftwaffe bij het einde van de oorlog werd ingezet. Het was snel ontworpen en snel gebouwd, voornamelijk uit hout, maar was niettemin het snelste van de eerste generatie straalvliegtuigen. Het had de bijnamen Volksjäger, Salamander en Spatz (spreeuw).

Der Aufnahmeort des Bildes ist unbekannt. Die Heinkel He 162 war ein deutsches einstrahliges Jagdflugzeug, das im Zweiten Weltkrieg von der Luftwaffe eingesetzt wurde. Es wurde in kürzester Zeit entworfen und gebaut und bestand hauptsächlich aus Holz. Trotzdem war es der schnellste Jet der ersten Jet-Generation von Achsenmächten und Alliierten. Es hieß Volksjäger, Salamander oder Spatz. Diese He 162 "White 4" der Jägereinheit JG1 wurde bei Leck in Norddeutschland von britischen Truppen erbeutet. Er wurde anschließend nach Kassel gebracht. Ursprünglich war geplant, diese Jets zur Evaluierung in die USA zu bringen. Bild im Besitz meines Großvaters Jan B.H.A.
