  • Otis, et al. (2012-12-21). Kenny Burrell - what kind of guitar? (BBS thread). theGearPage.net.
"#10: Bebop Tom: If you saw Kenny Burrell live with an ES 175, then you haven't seen him for over five decades. By 1959 he switched to an L5 and L7 with CC pickups, then a D'Angelico and an Epiphone. In the 1960's he switched to a Super 400, his preferred guitar since then. He used a Fender Tweed amp in the early days, and has favored Twin Reverbs since then.
#15: JimR56: ... And yes, Burrell had a D'Angelico New Yorker (1956; cutaway; blond, later refinished to sunburst) that he used on some recordings in the 60's to the mid-70's.
#16: mojo jones: I've met Kenny and seen him play many times. Every time I saw him in the 70s, he had a D'Angelico with a DeArmond pickup (monkey on a stick), the pickup semi-permanently attached without the bridge mounted stick. One of those DeArmonds was a pickup I sold him in the mid 70s. He covered the F-holes with black tape. He liked to play through the Blackface Twin Reverb (house amp) at the Lighthouse, (SoCal) He played quite loud ... the Twin was noticeably distorting. Really.
