Fair use rationale[edit]

Non-free media information and use rationale for Krypton (comics)

Depicts Krypton exploding, similar to the cover of The Man of Steel (comics) #1, by John Byrne (comics), and done in his style. Probably a panel from that issue.

Geocities page about Krypton, a footnote states: "related icons and images are copyright DC Comics or their original creators/artists and are used without permission." Retrieved Aug 16, 2008, by User:Vrmlguy.

For identification purposes in conjunction with discussion of the topic of the article. Although the picture is subject to copyright, (User:Vrmlguy feels it is covered by the U.S. fair use laws because:

  1. It is a low resolution copy of a comic book panel;
  2. It does not limit the copyright owner's rights to sell the comic book in any way;
  3. Copies could not be used to make illegal copies of the comic book;
  4. The image is significant; it shows the planet Krypton exploding, which is integral to the origin of Superman.

No free use image available. As this is a fictional, copyrighted character, a freely-licensed alternative could not reasonably be obtained.
