| Description |
English: I took this picture (with the aid of a tripod of course...) in August, 1992. It is a photo of a group of WELL users after a day spent working to re-plant a part of the roadside near the WELL office. The idea was to to tear out a whole lot of "ice plant" and replace it with wildflowers etc. The project was mostly the result of the untiring efforts of Merrill Peterson, who was out there every Saturday for many months, sometimes with help, sometimes alone. Merrill and his raiders ripped out tons of Ice-plant and started to do some replanting. In late 1993, the California department of Transportation put a stop to it, because plans were in the works to rebuild the off and on-ramps surrounding the replanting effort. In 2001 the photo was published in Katie Hafners' book The Well: A Story of Love, Death & Real Life in the Seminal Online Community |
