    Summary[edit]

Non-free media information and use rationale true for Facebook
    Description

A login form is seen on the left and a registration form is on the right. This is the default homepage for users who are not logged in.

    Source

    http://thefacebook.com/

    Article

    Facebook

    Portion used

Profile. Single frame; the image is used to convey the meaning intended and avoid tarnishing or misrepresenting the intended image.

    Low resolution?

    Yes

    Purpose of use

Identification and critical/historical commentary in the Facebook article, a subject of public interest. The significance of the image is to help the reader identify the profile page of Facebook in Feb 2005, almost a year after its launch and to assure the readers that they have reached the right article containing critical commentary about the subject at hand, and illustrate it in a way that words alone could not convey.

    Replaceable?

No, because the design changed. And because it is a screenshot, there is almost certainly no free equivalent. Any substitute that is not a derivative work would fail to convey the meaning intended, would tarnish or misrepresent its image, or would fail its purpose of identification or commentary.
