Description

Black Rat Snake, Pantherophis obsoletus. Notes: taking defensive position in sapling in response to the photographer. Note mostly white belly. Location: Chatham County, North Carolina, United States. This may actually be Eastern Rat Snake, Pantherophis alleghaniensis. See discussion at English Wikipedia article on Black Rat Snake.
