English: Recade (o makpo) bird-headed
A Recade is a scepter of the ancient kingdom of Dahomey, shaped stick or ax. This is one of the symbols of authority of the sovereign, also a staff of command given to the courier to the recipient to ensure the authenticity of the royal message. The term is derived from the Portuguese recado meaning "message" or "Mandat".

Une récade est un sceptre royal de l'ancien royaume du Danhomè, en forme de crosse ou de hache. C'est l'un des symboles d'autorité du souverain, également un bâton de commandement remis au messager pour garantir à son destinataire l'authenticité du message royal. Le terme est dérivé du portugais recado qui signifie « message » ou « commission ».
