Summary

(June 22, 2006) The Los Angeles-class attack submarine USS Houston (SSN 713), currently assigned to Submarine Squadron 15 in Guam, gets a periscope reading on the SS Petersburg (T-AOT) 5075 during the Pacific Command's joint exercise Valiant Shield 2006. With three carrier strike groups working together with land-based U.S. military air and ground forces, Valiant Shield 2006 provides the U.S. a unique opportunity to operate and sustain these forces in a blue-water environment that is very different from other theaters such as the Middle East.
