Cef Navelino

[edit]

Summary

[edit]

The artist is one of humble beginnings from the green fields and copper sunsets of Bulacan who proclaims that painting has always been his passion. This passion burning from within has allowed him to generate works of art as striking as his colorful surroundings and as vibrant as his multi-faceted life.

Mr Navelino has a good number of years to his credit working in various big-name food industries. Having put himself through school, he eventually graduated from Philippine Normal University with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, major in Guidance and Counseling. He is also a recent passer of the Licensure Examinations for Teachers and is now considering continuing pursuit of his Masters degree. At present, he works for a top multi-media company based in Makati.

Despite all these credentials, Mr Navelino remains a simple, likable man with both feet planted firmly on the ground. “I have dreams, just like everyone,” he says, “but in the meantime, I have to be realistic. I think one can be creative and still be real.”

He cites the great Malang as an early influence in his art work. His creative sphere later imbibed such luminaries of the art world as Van Gogh, Monet and Picasso; he also drew inspiration from exponents of other disciplines such as Rodin and Jaime Zobel. Mr Navelino’s paintings frequently have abstract subject matters, employing styles as diverse as etching patterns and pointillism. He incorporates into his art work virtually anything he finds at home-like old coins, powder and even rugby! His preferred medium is watercolor on cardboard.

It is not unusual for Mr Navelino to start on a blank sheet and paint for hours in a frenzied burst, only to add layers of color or material years later. “I’ve done it all before. I’ve experienced so many emotions. When I paint, I have so much to say, so much to share, so many stories only I can tell.” Cef navelino 01:20, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
