Sorry, I know this map was created in good intention, but it's still not worth the quality standards of Wikipedia. Cultural spheres do not stop at country borders. Please visit Europe, Asia or Africa to understand that a lot of ethnicities, peoples are scattered across the borders, belonging to the same 'cultural sphere' though. Just look at the map where Bosnia and Herzegovina is. This country belongs to 3 'cultural spheres' as its populations is divided between (Catholic) Christianity, the Serb Orthodox Church and last but not least Islam. The map only indicates one of these. There are several other examples, please delete or modify this map, I just can't help crying watching it. Nước mắm ngon quá! (talk) 06:52, 21 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that the concept behind the diagram is rather subjective. This said, it is fairly accurate. Some suggestions though:
  1. Make the purple countries grey. There doesn't seem to be any reason why the "non-aligned" countries are in one of two different colours.
  2. Consider hashed areas for mixed regions. There are a few of them.
  3. Ethiopia is part of Christian/Animist sub-Saharan Africa, so should be part of "Africa".
  4. Latin America is part of the same sphere as Spain and Portugal. Whether they should be all "Western" or an "Iberian" is up to you. This sphere also creeps into the western US.
  5. The remaining Latin American colonies are part of the Latin America cultural zone. I don't know where the thoughts of Eastern Europe come from (except for Cuba).
  6. Greece is as much part of "Western" (for having invented most of Western culture and having language ties with the Romance countries) as it is "Eastern Europe" (for being Orthodox and previously being at the heart of the Eastern Roman Empire).
  7. Poland, Romania and western Ukraine all have claim to being both East and West. As the above user points out, Bosnia is a very diverse place.
  8. Pakistan and Bangladesh may well be Islamic, but they are also equally Indic. Bali is just Indic.
  9. Turkey is Islamic. It's not Arabic, but then neither is the Persian cultural region.
  10. South Africa is both "Africa" and "Western". 59.167.126.21 (talk) 03:54, 14 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I kind of agree that to cut the world apart like this is ridiculous in a way. The texts are found only in Sinosphere languages, which also gives an idea of who made it for whom. Even if "real world" cannot be split up accurately like this, this image still has value: namely, to give an idea of geographical distribution of major language/religious divisions. All disclaimers should be added as to that it trivializes the spectrum of cultures; still, its value is in showing the rough information. Also, this is wiki, feel free to upload a more accurate image (and try not to make it too much more confusing!) --Sigmundur (talk) 07:06, 12 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
