As instructed by the tag on the image page, I have expanded the fair use rationale for this image to resolve the concern raised, and (also as instructed by the tag) removed the tag. In addition, I have started a centralised discussion at Talk:Illustrating Tolkien#Nothing remotely like an image gallery which concerns this and the other non-free images in the article.
