Fred Martin graduated from Highland High School in Pocatello, Idaho. He is a graduate of BYU-Idaho and the Institute of Religion at Utah State University in Logan, Utah. Fred also completed the Real Estate Management program at the College of Business at U.S.U. He also attended Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho. He graduated from the Medical Training Center at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas, and Non-Commissioned Officer Training School at I.S.U.
Fred has been a teacher, educator, principal, businessman and CEO. Out of college, Fred taught Religious Education, U.S. History, and Business Economics. For over 20 years Martin was owner, president, and CEO of Satellite Systems Inc. with offices throughout Idaho, the western and southern United States. When Fred was the CEO of Satellite Systems, Inc. his dealerships were in the top 100 nationwide in sales volume out of 15,000 dealers.
Fred was a medic in the Idaho National Guard and was a member of the United States Army Reserves. Martin received his basic training at Fort Polk Louisiana, his AIT (Advanced Individual Training) at the Medical Training Center at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas. Fred graduated from Non-Commissioned Officer Training school at Idaho State University. He was honorably discharged from the Army National Guard of Idaho in 1974 and from the United States Army in 1977.

Fred Martin was an aide to a United States Congressman and Bureau Chief, Executive Director for Citizens for Local Government, Sergeant at Arms Idaho State Senate, a Republican Precinct Committeeman, and a Republican County Vice-Chairman.

Fredrick Sullivan Martin was born and grew up on the Fort Hall Indian reservation north of Tyhee, Idaho. Fred is a 4th generation Idahoan (going back to John William Martin of Rexburg about 1882 and George Fredrick Martin of American Falls and Salmon). Fred's great, great grandfather was Thomas Martin. His sister Eleanor Martin married Joel Ricks and their oldest son Thomas E. Ricks founded Ricks College now BYU-Idaho. Fred is married and the father of 6 wonderful children with 16 beautiful grandchildren (14 of them living in Idaho). Fred's grandchildren are 7th generation Idahoans (on Darla's side of the family) going back to Layman Parker (founder of Parker, Idaho). Fred is very active in his church, serving in the North Carolina-Virginia Mission, working mainly with the Lumbee Indians in Pembroke, North Carolina. He was a Seminary teacher and Principal in the Church Education System. Fred also taught U.S. History and Business Economics. Fred and Darla have been temple ordinance workers since 2006 and were shift coordinators. His wife is Darla (Miner) formerly of St. Anthony, Idaho (born in Burley, Idaho). Darla's father, the late Doyle C. Miner, was a city councilman, a state representative (District 28) who served as the Co-Chairman of the Joint Finance and Appropriations Committee, Chairman of the Ada County Commissioners, Republican nominee for State Treasurer, and the Director of the Idaho State Board of Pharmacy. He also was co-owner of a chain of Drug Stores in southeastern Idaho (Thriftway Drug). Fred has a relative, Colonel David Crawford (came from Scotland to Jamestown Virginia in 1643) born to John and Mary Margaret Crawford, who later served in the Virginia House of Burgesses (1692-1694). Colonel Crawford amassed many acres of land and owned a large plantation that eventually became the site of Richmond, Virginia. Fred had relatives on the Mayflower (William White) and Captain John Martin who come to the Virginia Colony in about 1630. Fred is also a direct descendant of Totopotomi, Chief of the Pamunkey Indian Tribe (of Virginia) and his wife Cochacoeske of the Powhatan Tribe. Fred is also a direct descendant of Wuch-I-Ki TauBut of the Mohawk Tribe.
