Gimme Some Truth is a box set containing four themed discs of remastered John Lennon songs. The box set was released along with John Lennon Signature Box box set and Power to the People: The Hits compilation in conjunction with what would be Lennon's 70th birthday.

Overview

The themes of Gimme Some Truth include "Working Class Hero", Lennon's socio-political songs; "Woman", Lennon's love songs; "Borrowed Time", his songs about life; and "Roots", his rock 'n' roll roots and influences.[4] The collection features most of the tracks released on Lennon's studio albums, including in their entirety John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band and Rock n' Roll, and all but one track from Imagine. However, the tracks are not presented in album order.

This album is notable for featuring almost all studio recordings released by John Lennon during his lifetime. Only seven tracks included on the original release of John Lennon solo albums are not included on the collection. These are It's So Hard from Imagine, Aisumasen (I'm Sorry), One Day (At a Time), Bring on the Lucie (Freeda Peele), I Know (I Know) and the silent 3-second track Nutopian International Anthem from Mind Games, and Going Down on Love from Walls and Bridges. The B-Side Move over Ms. L is also absent.

From the albums released jointly with Yoko Ono, two songs solely composed by Lennon are missing; Dear Yoko from Double Fantasy and Forgive Me My Little Flower Princess from Milk and Honey. The track Grow Old With Me, which appears in a demo form on Milk and Honey is however replaced by the version released on the John Lennon Anthology featuring production from George Martin. Three co-compositions from Some Time in New York City are missing; Attica State, on which Lennon sings lead, and Luck of the Irish and Angela, where Ono and Lennon share vocals. Additionally, no material from the live jam featured on the second LP of that double-album is present.
