Paul and Lori Hogan founded the firm in 1994. CEO Paul Hogan was named Entrepreneur of the Year by the International Franchise Association.

In 2003 The Home Instead Senior Care Foundation was established as a means to further enhance the health, safety, support services and lives of seniors. The Foundation funds non-profit organizations that specialize in programs and services for seniors, including research and development, education, scholarships, and/or advocacy for the health and well being of the elderly.
As of 2014, The Home Instead Senior Care Foundation had awarded 151 grants totaling more than $1.5 million.
