Importers have a variety of software and service options in the market that will help them file the ISF with customs. Following is a summary of what an importer can expect in the market for their ISF filing choices:

1) Carrier Services - Ocean carriers offer ISF filing services to importers. Most data entry happens overseas in this situation.

2) Custom Brokers - Customs brokers also offer ISF filing as either an integrated or added service to their customers along with their entry filing services.

3) Software - Customs approved software vendors offer hosted as well as installed software solutions that will help an importer to obtain in-house control on ISF filing. By using an off-the-shelf software either as a hosted service (most common) or as an installed application within the importers firewall (secure and gives importer full control on their data) importer can enter and file ISF entries directly with customs. Since ISF requirements are simple compared to entry filing requirements importers may be more inclined to bring ISF filing in-house as this may provide significant cost reductions.

4) Turn-key service providers - These are generally 3rd parties that provide qualified data entry resources as well as software application to an importer to help them control ISF filing. Most of these services are staffed with overseas resources thereby providing a low cost alternative.
