Iceman is the upcoming ninth studio album by Canadian rapper and singer Drake, expected to be released in late 2025 by OVO Sound. It is a follow-up to his collaboration album with PartyNextDoor, Some Sexy Songs 4 U (2025) and his feud with American rapper Kendrick Lamar, of which he also filed a defamation case against the Universal Music Group over Lamar's disses, most notably "Not Like Us" and the Super Bowl LIX halftime show. The album also marks Drake's first solo release since his eighth studio album For All the Dogs (2023) and the EP 100 Gigs (2024), as well as his Lamar disses released throughout 2024 and his LeBron James diss track "Fighting Irish Freestyle" (2025).

The album was promoted by a livestream named "Iceman: Episode 1" and the single "What Did I Miss?", which was released on July 5, 2025.

Background and promotion

[edit]

Following Drake's feud with Kendrick Lamar, Drake began teasing his ninth studio record Iceman in August of 2024. This began with the release of the 100 Gigs EP and him posting cryptic messages on his social media accounts, his backup Instagram account, plottttwistttttt.

The album was first previewed by OVO signee Smiley when he revealed that Drake did hard work for a new project following the release of their collaboration "2 Mazza".[1]

On July 4, 2025, nearly five months after the release of his collaborative studio album Some Sexy Songs 4 U, Drake began teasing his first solo material of the year. The release of "What Did I Miss?", the album's lead single released on July 5, was preceded by a livestream titled "Iceman: Episode 1", which featured him driving a truck around Toronto, eventually drawing a crowd as fans recognized him.[2] Additional footage showed the rapper sitting in an Iceman-branded warehouse, eating food and watching old videos of himself, before the stream transitioned into a live performance of the new song.[3]

A track from the album, "Supermax", was previewed during the "Iceman: Episode 1" livestream. On the song, Drake looks inward and vulnerably opens up about fractured relationships and keeping his focus. The song also mentions Taylor Rooks, a TNT sideline reporter. Rooks would repost the clip on an Instagram story, seemingly confirming that she was referenced on the track with the following lines: "Losin' all these friends really got to me/ I was talking to Taylor over drinks, and it was getting deep/ 'Not everyone can handle this pressure and, in thе city, you’re the national treasurе', that's what she said to me".[4]

Possible collaborations with American rapper Playboi Carti and British-American rapper 21 Savage were also previewed, with the former being originally featured on For All the Dogs, while the latter shared the post for "What Did I Miss"'s release. The Playboi Carti collaboration was also previewed by DJ Swamp Izzo, who provided ad-libs on Carti's latest album, which featured Drake's rivals Future, Travis Scott, the Weeknd, and Kendrick Lamar, among others. Possible producers on the album would include Tay Keith, Oz, Conductor Williams, and Drake's frequent collaborator and OVO co-founder Noah "40" Shebib.[4]

The album is expected to be released sometime in late 2025, possibly in October.[4]

Themes

[edit]

In "What Did I Miss?", Drake addresses the aftermath of his feud with Kendrick Lamar, calling out those who attempted to "play both sides" rather than support him. The song includes direct references to Lamar's Pop Out concert on Juneteenth 2024, among other nods to their conflict.[5] The song features Drake's signature blend of "slick melodies and razor-sharp raps", as he directly addresses people he believes betrayed him, questioning the authenticity of past friendships, most notably with NBA stars DeMar DeRozan and LeBron James.[6] Drake raps, "I saw bro went to Pop Out with them, but been dick riding gang since 'Headlines'", serving as a subliminal directed towards James as Drake believes he betrayed him by attending Kendrick's show and dancing to his 2024 award-winning diss against him, "Not Like Us".[citation needed]
