James Charles Dickinson (born May 23, 1999), known as James Charles, is an American internet personality, makeup artist, and model. In 2016 he became the first male ambassador for CoverGirl.


Internet personality

Charles launched his YouTube channel, focusing on makeup, on December 1, 2015 and, as of December 8, 2018, has over 12 million subscribers and 700 million views.[1] His Instagram has over 11.1 million followers (as of December 8, 2018).[2] As of December 2018, Charles has 2.34 million followers on Twitter.[3] At the 8th Streamy Awards he won the award for best channel in the Beauty category.[4]


On October 11, 2016, at the age of seventeen, Charles became the first male spokesmodel for cosmetics brand CoverGirl, working alongside brand ambassador Katy Perry.[5][6][7][8][9] As the first male spokesmodel and brand ambassador for CoverGirl, Charles will be the face of the soon-to-be launched So Lashy! by BlastPro Mascara.[10][11]

In 2017, Charles walked the runway for MarcoMarco's Six 1/2 collection during Los Angeles Fashion Week.[12][13]

Personal life

Charles is from Bethlehem, New York, and graduated from Bethlehem Central High School in June 2017, with CoverGirl's slogan, "Easy, Breezy, Beautiful", emblazoned across his graduation cap.[14][15][16] Charles is openly gay.[17]
