Early Life[edit]
He was born Jose D. Lina, Jr. on December 22, 1951 in Masapang, Victoria, Laguna.
Personal Life[edit]
He is married to Loretta Atienza, with whom he has six children. The Lina family is active in Catholic renewal movement.
Educational life[edit]
Prior to finishing Law at the Top 10 of his Class in the University of the Philippines in 1979 and passing the Bar Exams in 1980. Lina had obtained an AB Economics degree from the University of Santo Tomas in 1975.
Career[edit]
Lina has filled 338 bills and was responsible for several landmark measures including the Urban Development and Housing Act of 1992 and the creation of the Philippine Sports Commission.[2]
Political Life[edit]
Senator Jose “Joey” D. Lina, Jr. was the youngest member of the Senate from 1987 to 1992. He was elected governor of Laguna and served from 1995 to 2001. He was Secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government. He is at present the president of Manila Hotel.
