Celaleddin Kötürüm Bayezid (Old Anatolian Turkish: جلال الدين بايزيد), was a prince of the Candar dynasty that reigned as Bey of Candar from 1361 until 1383.
Life[edit]
At the time of his enthronement, the principality had two powerful neighbors; the Ottoman Empire to the west and the Beylik of Eretna under Kadı Burhaneddin to the east, which made it a great challenge to maintain his dominion. Additionally, it was also a great challenge on the Black Sea coast where the Republic of Genoa and the Republic of Venice had interests.[1]
The governor of Amasya was his son in law, whom he supported his in his conflict with Kadı Burhaneddin.
While in early years he was an Ottoman ally, when his son Süleyman killed İsfendiyar, his second son whom he planned to declare crown prince, Celaleddin Bayezid defeated his son and Süleyman was forced to retreat to Ottoman territory, who had been supporting Süleyman in his struggle against his father. This event marked the end of the Candar–Ottoman alliance in that period, and with Ottoman support, Süleyman captured Kastamonu from his father in 1383. Although Celâleddin Bayezid managed to recapture Kastamonu, the Ottomans under Murad I finally annexed the province in 1384 and the Candar dominion was reduced to a small territory around Sinop.
Death[edit]
Celâleddin Bayezid died in 1385.[2]
