Kanishtha Dhankar is an Indian actress and supermodel who was[4] crowned Pantaloons Miss India 2011, where Hasleen Kaur was crowned the Femina Miss India Earth. She later represented India at the Miss World 2011 pageant[5] where she placed in top 30.[6]

Early life

Kanishtha was born on 21 September 1988[1][2] in Mumbai, India to Raj Singh Dhankhar, a Commodore in the Indian Navy, and Kusum Dhankhar. She is second of their three children. Her father was posted in Mumbai at the time of her birth. Her mother is a school teacher and a home maker and has worked extensively with the Naval Wives Welfare Association in Mumbai. Her ancestral family is from Haryana. Kanishtha was raised in Colaba, Mumbai. She pursued a Bachelor of Commerce degree in H.R. College of Commerce and Economics in Mumbai.[3]

Kanishtha began her career in modelling in her last year at university where she was scouted by modeling agents[citation needed]. She has been travelling the world for work. She moved to New York for a few months where she walked the runway at the Mercedes Benz fashion week spring summer 2013[citation needed].

Filmography

In 2008, she appeared in Madhur Bhandarkar's film Fashion[7] as a model with Kangana Ranaut, and Priyanka Chopra.

She walked the ramp for Lakme Fashion week, Wills India fashion week, Couture week to name a few. She has also been cover girl and is acclaimed to be the next big thing in the Indian fashion industry. She has been featured in and has shot for fashion magazines like Vogue, Elle, Grazia, Harpers Bazaar, Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan and has also been on the cover of Elle, Marie Claire, Grazia, and Cosmopolitan.

The latest feathers under her cap include the Sabyasachi campaign, Hemant & Leconet campaign, being the first face at the Wills India fashion week. Also she will be featured in The Project Runway season 10 finale with Hiedi Klum.

Miss World

She competed at the Miss World 2011 pageant which was held on November 6, 2011 in London, United Kingdom, and she was in top 30.
