Family Name

Khatiwada (alternatively spelled Khatiwoda) is a family name (Surname) belonging to the Brahmin Varna (one of the four major castes) in Nepal. People with this family name are spread out across the country, with distribution ranging from Bhaktapur in the Kathmandu Valley to Doti in the far west and Jhapa in eastern Nepal. The ancestors of the present day Khatiwadas entered Nepal some 7 centuries ago from North-West India. They belonged to the Bhat caste of Brahmins. They settled in Western Nepal, and got the surname "Khatiwada". Since then, Khatiwadas have spread all over Nepal.

Khatiwada is also a village development committee in Doti District in the Seti Zone of western Nepal. At the time of the 1991 Nepal census it had a population of 4573 living in 933 individual households.[1]
