Karen Americans (S'gaw Karen: ပှၤကညီဖိလၢကီၢ်အမဲရံကး) are Americans of full or partial Karen ancestry from Myanmar and Thailand. Karen American are one group of Asian Americans. Many Karen war refugees resettle in the United States starting in the early 2000s. The Karen people first arrived to the U.S. in 2004. In 2017 Minnesota was reported to have more than 12,000 Karen, the largest such community in the country.[2] Other places with significant populations are California, Texas, New York, and Indiana.[3]
