Don Shula, the all-time leader in regular season wins by a head coach, addresses troops on the USS Ronald Reagan
George Halas was the all-time leader in regular season wins for decades, recording all his victories with the Chicago Bears.

In professional American football, the National Football League (NFL) gives the head coach credit for his team's win–loss record. As of the 2017 season, 102 coaches, about 20%, have won 50 or more games.[1]

Former head coach Don Shula holds the records for most wins with 347 and the most regular season wins with 328. Prior to Shula, the records for most wins and regular season wins were held by Chicago Bears founder George Halas with 318 and 324, which are the most with a single franchise. As of the third round of the 2018 NFL postseason, Bill Belichick has the most wins and regular season wins among active head coaches with 291 and 261 and holds the record for most playoff wins at 30.

Coaches with 50 or more wins[edit]

This sortable table shows the top NFL coaches in order of total wins. The table also shows every team for which he was a head coach. If two coaches have the same number of wins, the coach with the higher winning percentage is ranked first.

Bill Belichick is the current active leader in regular season wins by a head coach.

When sorting teams, coaches are listed in order of wins for that team.

Teams grouped together :

• Arizona, Chicago and St. Louis Cardinals • Los Angeles and St. Louis Rams
• Chicago Bears, Decatur Staleys, Chicago Staleys • New England and Boston Patriots
