List of true homonyms

Homonyms are words that are pronounced the same as each other, and spelled the same, yet have different meanings. The category is somewhat subjective, because words sometimes have related, only very slightly different, meanings. Some authors use the term more broadly, to refer to homographs (words spelled the same as each other but pronounced differently) or homophones (words spelled differently but pronounced the same). Other authors, such as the Oxford English Dictionary, use the term more narrowly, referring only to words that have different meanings and different origins, excluding a number of words with related meanings.
