According to Lighthouse Directory, there are more than 18,600 lighthouses worldwide.[3] Lighthouse Directory is a website about lighthouses around the world, maintained by mathematician Russ Rowlett and hosted by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.[4]

Europe[edit]

At 82.5 metres (271 ft), Île Vierge Lighthouse (right) is the tallest lighthouse in Europe. It is also the tallest "traditional" lighthouse in the world.[5][6]
