Malanad

Malanad or Mala Nadu(മലനാട് in Malayalam) is term used to refer a hilly geographical region of both Kannur and kasaragod districts in Kerala, India. It is the continuation of Malenadu, The hilly region of Karnataka state. Malanad region covers the hilly areas of vellarikundu thaluk in kasaragod distrct and the highlands of Taliparamba thaluk & Iritty Thaluk of Kannur disrict. The malanad area starts from palchuram in kannur-wayanad border and end at Ranipuram in Kasaragod-coorg border. The land lies as a narrow strip between the coorg disrtct of karnataka to the east and wayand district to south and the midland areas of north malabar in west whereas tulunadu in north. the major rivers that are originating from the region are River tejaswini and Valapattanam River. from 1950s onwards the migatrion of roman christians to malanadu happens from kottayam & idukki districts.
