Mandaue was founded in April 7, 1521 when the Cove of Cebu, sighted by the Spanish expedition led by Ferdinand Magellan. The “Cove of Cebu”, located at the present Barangay Tipolo, he found that a civilization already flourished under their leader Aponooan who were hospitable and gave tribute. The “Cove of Cebu” was formally constituted into a “pueblo” between 1580 to 1700 was under Jesuit priests and was officially known as the Town of Mandawe in the year 1899.
In 1898 the revolution between the Spanish colonial government and the Filipino Katipuneros broke out and the town was given a new form of administration in accordance with the organic decree of the Central Revolutionary Government.
