Hum Masala (Urdu: مصالحہ‎, formerly known as Masala TV) is the first dedicated 24-hour food television channel in the world in the language of Urdu. Hum Masala was launched on 22 November 2006 in Pakistan. Just after few days of its launching, Masala became a household name that was recognized all across the country and helped set the dinner tables in almost all homes during the Holy month of fasting.[2] Masala TV is part of the Hum Network Limited[3] which also includes the popular entertainment channel Hum TV. The slogan of masala TV "Add some masala to your life" became a very popular line and was very catchy. Masala TV also broadcast live throughout Ramadan and Eid.

  • Shireen Anwar

Shireen Anwar features in masala TV's Masala Mornings. Her sincerity and politeness has made her a favourite of everyone. Shireen anwar has 27 years of culinary experience and has 2 cookbooks to her name. She specializes in oriental to continental, but personally enjoys making desserts. She has also started cooking classes which have been a huge successes. Zarnak Sidhwa, another masala TV chef, was a cooking student of hers. Masala Mornings airs at 11:pm pst.

  • Zakir Qureshi

Zakir Qureshi's another big name at masala. He features in the show Dawat. He is very experienced and has a large fan following.

  • Rida Aftab

Rida Aftab hosts the show Tarka. She has a very down to earth personality, making her a favourite of many. She also uses very simple ingredients and has the ability to transform very complicated dishes into very simple ones.

  • Zubaida Tariq

Cooking expert Zubaida Tariq features in masala TV cooking show Handi. Her cooking style is very simple and she specializes in traditional Pakistani foods. She also uses very simple ingredients which are usually available in every house or can be found in very easily. She is very much a favourite of every person due to her modesty and wisdom. She was born in Hyderabad, Dakkan,India.She started her culinary career at the age of 50 and has since been working for 18 years. Abeel Javed hosts the programme Handi and the pair get on very well together. Handi airs at 5:00 pm, Pakistan standard time.

  • Zarnak Sidhwa

Zarnak Sidhwa features in Masala TV show Food Diaries. A food enthusiast, she stepped up into practice by catering from home since 2005 & excelled both in sweet and savory dishes initially in her own Parsi community and then extended her professional expertise to catering for friends and through word of mouth has developed a niche clientele for herself. She is particularly interested in desserts, baking and Christmas cakes. her other interests include reading, traveling and entertaining

International Distribution[edit]

In 2010, Hum Masala expanded its reach to North America, launching in the USA on Dish Network on March 18, 2010.[4] It was subsequently dropped by Dish Network on November 23, 2012, due to a contract dispute.[5]

On March 20, 2014, Masala TV launched in Canada on Bell Fibe TV.
