Edit request from FleetCommand, 3 September 2010

[edit]

{{editprotected}} Hi.

Following up a granted edit request in MediaWiki:Licenses, I'd like to propose the following line of code to be added to this page. I have highlighted the line which I'm requesting in green:

*** Non-free music video screenshot|Music video or music promo screenshot
*** Non-free software screenshot|Software screenshot
**** Microsoft screenshot|- Screenshot of a Microsoft product
**** Non-free software screenshot|Screenshots of Windows software|- Windows software screenshot
**** Non-free software screenshot|Screenshots of Mac software|- Mac OS software screenshot

Also, I'd like to propose the following lines to be appended to the bottom of the page:

* Public domain:
** Not covered by copyright:
*** PD-text|Simple typefaces, individual words or geometric shapes

Thanks in advance. Fleet Command (talk) 19:09, 3 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

 Done Well, partly. I did the PD stuff but I don't see why Microsoft should be singled out from every other commercial software publisher. It just seems redundant. Feel free to repost and explain. I can't promise I'll be the one who gets to it. --Selket Talk 22:35, 3 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well, if I were you I wouldn't have rejected a request that is granted in the parent page without investigation.

As for the reason: It's simple; Because Microsoft license is different: Microsoft actually authorizes the use of its screenshots. Template {{Microsoft screenshot}} is made with the approval of three other administrators to properly inform users of this difference. Note that tagging Microsoft screenshots with a fair-use tag is a legal misconduct called "Misrepresentation". (Reason is simple: They are authorized use. Saying that they are fair-use is inconsistent with the truth.)

There now, dear Selket. Now you know it. Would please kindly grant my request?

Ok, done as requested. BTW, I didn't reject the request, I passed on it. I didn't feel I adequately understood the Microsoft screenshot issue. I'm a little scared of MediaWiki namespace to be honest. I acted on the ones I understood. Sorry if you felt like I was rejecting the other. --Selket Talk 18:38, 4 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, both for the change and for mentioning my wording problem. Perhaps "reject" was not a good choice of word. I'll take it into consideration in my future communications. Fleet Command (talk) 21:49, 4 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
