Mediawiki:Spam-blacklist is meant to be used by the spam blacklist extension. Unlike the meta spam blacklist, this blacklist affects pages on the English Wikipedia only. Any administrator may edit the spam blacklist. See Wikipedia:Spam blacklist for more information about the spam blacklist.
There are 4 sections for posting comments below. Please make comments in the appropriate section. These links take you to the appropriate section:
Each section has a message box with instructions. In addition, please sign your posts with ~~~~ after your comment.
Completed requests are archived. All additions and removals are also logged.
If in doubt, please leave a request and a spam-knowledgeable admin will follow-up.
- Does the site have any validity to the project?
- Have links been placed after warnings/blocks? Have other methods of control been exhausted? Would referring this to our anti-spam bot, XLinkBot be a more appropriate step? Is there a WikiProject Spam report? If so, a permanent link would be helpful.
- Please ensure all links have been removed from articles and discussion pages before blacklisting. (They do not have to be removed from user or user talk pages).
- Make the entry at the bottom of the list (before the last line). Please do not do this unless you are familiar with regex — the disruption that can be caused is substantial.
- Close the request entry on here using either {{done}} or {{not done}} as appropriate. The request should be left open for a week maybe as there will often be further related sites or an appeal in that time.
- Log the entry. Warning: if you do not log any entry you make on the blacklist, it may well be removed if someone appeals and no valid reasons can be found. To log the entry, you will need this number - 869392991 after you have closed the request. See here for more info on logging.

- See this RSN post by Walter Görlitz to show that the link has no value as a reliable source.
I reverted an addition of trivia which had its ref as a link to metal-archives.com which is user-generated content and there are numerous copyright violations. The lyrics of many artists are being published by the users. This can be seen by following the link that I reverted or any of the ref links left by 87.207.50.197. I stopped counting at 2100 links for that site and would need help to assess the number of cross-wiki links. I have a feeling that this would crash a standard link report. Also, lyrics.wikia.com was being added by the IP and it also looks like the same kind of copyvios as the other link. Many of the album cover images are also being sourced to these sites. There are 313 links to lyrics.wikia.com here at the English Wikipedia. I believe that the copyvios make these links good candidates for blacklisting.
— Berean Hunter (talk) 12:26, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
- Okay, there are 5,325 metal-archives.com links on this project not counting cross-wiki links. There are 741 links to lyrics.wikia.com according to the bot report so I assume that counts cross-wiki links. That report didn't complete because of too many additions.
— Berean Hunter (talk) 13:05, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
Despite not being spam sites I agree that it makes sense to add both sites to the blacklist and I wouldn't complain if they were removed both as references and ELs. Walter Görlitz (talk) 14:39, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
- Not spam sites but it seems that they are being ref spammed. Some additions to promote while others may be in good faith but if they aren't suitable as RS then they don't need to be in between ref tags.

- In August 2017, Jones announced the launch of [newswars.com NewsWars.com], a site Jones said was intended to battle the fake news media. And yes, they used that new URL in the text of their rewrite of the Infowars lede.
I request that newswars.com be blocked as an obvious attempt to skirt the blocking of Infowars's main URL. --Calton | Talk 10:22, 4 November 2018 (UTC)

Emergency blacklisting while we work out what's going on with this site, which hosts significant numbers of scientific papers marked as copyright by major publishers (Elsevier, Nature, OUP etc) with no evidence of rights release. Guy (Help!) 18:44, 5 November 2018 (UTC)

- That is supposed to be an open science data repository. Looks like it is abused. AManWithNoPlan (talk) 21:20, 6 November 2018 (UTC)
- It looks to me that the intention of Zenodo is good. Also, many journals now allow authors to post their own papers, sometimes after an appropriate delay. Please get this figured out before too many links are removed, and we have to go figure out how to get them back! Gah4 (talk) 22:03, 6 November 2018 (UTC)
- That is one positive the Citation Bot trims the URLS to the landing page. It makes them shorter (original intent) and it means wilipedia does not link directly to a PDF (unexpected positive). AManWithNoPlan (talk) 22:44, 6 November 2018 (UTC)
- I do not understand why we cannot link to the originals in stead of linking to sites where the hosting of content is questionable (and that includes replacing links with appropriate direct links to originals). Even if it turns out to be fine on quite some occasions, there is no pressing need for them, and there is no reason to even consider taking the 'risk'. --Dirk Beetstra T C 05:32, 7 November 2018 (UTC)
- If people have them on their personal site, or school site, then link there. I was suspecting that these were put their by the author, but actually have no idea how they got there. I just know that I keep seeing on my watchlist links going away, and wondered why. How many such links are there? Who volunteers to find other sites hosting them and change the links? Both of these have been the subject of recent spamming by the same operator. Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Rabinrahim has the record. Rabinrahim spammed dgzmedia.com to a bunch of articles. When approached to please stop, he just blanked his page. I indeffed him after he continued. Then, he created account Richardkb to spam mostly kollybuzz.com, but with some dgzmedia.com mixed in. The accounts have been blocked, but it seems that the chief way to dissuade this guy from doing this is to blacklist the sites. Neither of these sources are sufficient as WP:RS. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 22:27, 11 November 2018 (UTC)

I noticed while trying to edit the InfoWars page that it was on the Blacklist and couldn't understand why the website had been added to spam. Its not redirecting, using url shortner, doing any suspicious activity, serving ads or opening pop-ups once you go to the website. The bot report also seemed unalarming. The reported vandal in proposed additions section above seems to have used it for citation. Not sure if mistakes of some user can be attributed to the website. The website itself has very reliable content, sources, and other information. While the information about the website is available on the page in form of the domain name, adding the link to spam seems like an error. Could this be corrected so that it can be linked to the corresponding page(s) please? Thanks. Thesourwarhead (talk) 20:38, 3 November 2018 (UTC)
Declined. The InfoWars domains were added due to spamming. However, there was later a community discussion which you can find here which further discusses whether it should be allowed anyway - as you can see the answer was no. Black Kite (talk) 20:56, 3 November 2018 (UTC)
- Even if you did get it off the blacklist here, the .com domain is blacklisted at Meta because it *was* spammed by a bot. Meta's blacklist applies to all WMF wikis, so unblacklisting the .com domain here would have no effect what-so-ever. —Jeremy v^_^v Bori! 04:44, 4 November 2018 (UTC)
Troubleshooting and problems[edit]
Logging / COIBot Instructions[edit]
Blacklist logging
Full Instructions for Admins
→ Wikipedia:Spam-blacklisting · (WP:BLACK)
Quick Reference
For Spam reports or requests originating from this page, use template {{/request|0#section_name}}
{{/request|213416274#Section_name}}- Insert the oldid 213416274 a hash "#" and the Section_name (Underscoring_spaces_where_applicable):
- Use within the entry log here.
For Spam reports or requests originating from Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Spam use template {{WPSPAM|0#section_name}}
{{WPSPAM|182725895#Section_name}}- Insert the oldid 182725895 a hash "#" and the Section_name (Underscoring_spaces_where_applicable):
- Use within the entry log here.
- Note: if you do not log your entries it may be removed if someone appeals and no valid reasons can be found.
Addition to the COIBot reports
The lower list in the COIBot reports now have after each link four numbers between brackets (e.g. "www.example.com (0, 0, 0, 0)"):
- first number, how many links did this user add (is the same after each link)
- second number, how many times did this link get added to wikipedia (for as far as the linkwatcher database goes back)
- third number, how many times did this user add this link
- fourth number, to how many different wikipedia did this user add this link.
If the third number or the fourth number are high with respect to the first or the second, then that means that the user has at least a preference for using that link. Be careful with other statistics from these numbers (e.g. good user who adds a lot of links). If there are more statistics that would be useful, please notify me, and I will have a look if I can get the info out of the database and report it. This data is available in real-time on IRC.
poking COIBot
When adding {{LinkSummary}}, {{UserSummary}} and/or {{IPSummary}} templates to WT:WPSPAM, WT:SBL, WT:SWL and User:COIBot/Poke (the latter for priviliged editors) COIBot will generate linkreports for the domains, and userreports for users and IPs.

- Criteria: I wanted to use a site (tradingeconomic.com) but was told that it was blacklisted. the site was the only one that seemed to have relevant data using a quick www search. It seemed legit. When i went to the blacklist, there was no reason given for barring this site. how do I find out why it was barred and whether I should ask for a removal or exception? (I am not an expert in the area and have no particular knowledge of the URL, but I do know that the data (on the average wage in Kazakhstan) I wanted to use is in-line with what I have heard elsewhere.)
