Michael Paul Stephenson (born February 28, 1978) is an American film director, producer, writer, and actor. He is best known for his starring role in Troll 2 (1990) and for directing the ensuing documentary, Best Worst Movie (2009). His second documentary, The American Scream (2012), premiered on NBCUniversal's Chiller network and was named a "Must Watch" by Entertainment Weekly. His latest film and narrative directorial debut, Girlfriend's Day (2017), is a Netflix original film.[1] Premiering on Valentine's Day 2017, the comedy stars Bob Odenkirk, Amber Tamblyn, Natasha Lyonne and Stacy Keach.


He is perhaps best known for his lead role in the 1990 horror film Troll 2 (1990) as Joshua Waits.[2] He also produced and directed the award-winning and critically acclaimed Best Worst Movie (2009), a feature-length documentary about Troll 2 which debuted March 14, 2009.[3] His second feature documentary, The American Scream,[4] premiered on NBCUniversal's Chiller network on October 28, 2012.
