Mississippi Highway 304 (MS 304) is a 14.404-mile-long (23.181 km) state highway in the northwestern part of the U.S. state of Mississippi. It consists of two routes:
- A freeway-grade route coinciding with most of SIU 10 of Interstate 69 (I-69), beginning at U.S. Route 61 (US 61) just north of the Tunica–DeSoto county line, then traveling east to I-55 in northern Hernando, entirely in DeSoto County.
- A scenic route, which begins at I-55 and MS 306 in Coldwater, travels west to MS 301 in Arkabutla, then north along MS 301 to the former routing of MS 304, then east to Hernando to end at I-55 (exit 280).
MS 304 formerly traveled on a two-lane alignment south of the present routing from US 61 in Tunica Resorts (Tunica County) east to I-55 in Hernando. The western portion of the former route is now officially part of MS 713; the remainder of the route (except the portion that is part of the scenic route noted above) no longer has an official state designation, but a number of state highway markers still appear along the route and at intersections.
Route description
MS 304 begins at a trumpet interchange with US 61 east of Tunica Resorts in the floodplain of the Mississippi River. The four-lane freeway has a half-diamond interchange with MS 3 that allows access to and from the east. MS 304 crosses over a rail line and has a partial interchange with a stub of I-69 that leads to MS 713 at Banks; the interchange includes a flyover from the westbound direction of the freeway. Immediately to the east of the interchange, I-69/MS 304 leaves the Mississippi River floodplain. The freeway has diamond interchanges with MS 301, Fogg Road, and Tulane Road. I-69/MS 304 crosses another rail line and passes over US 51 with no access just west of the state highway's terminus at I-55 on the northern end of Hernando, where I-69 joins I-55 heading north toward Memphis. The highways meet at a full cloverleaf interchange with the easternmost ramps closed until MS 304 is extended eastward.
Future
This section needs to be updated.(April 2012) |
East of Hernando, MS 304 is concurrent with I-269 continuing east to enter Marshall County near Byhalia to an interchange with I-22/US 78, then turning north to cross the Mississippi–Tennessee state line near Piperton. Tennessee would construct the remainder of the route north to existing SR 385. A section opened from I-269's proposed northern terminus to an interchange just south of the state line at MS 302 in October 2015, and furthermore to MS 305 in December 2017.
Exit list
The entire route is in De Soto County. All exits are unnumbered.
