Mobile station is a closed Amtrak train station in Mobile, Alabama. Built in 1956 by the Louisville and Nashville Railroad, it replaced an earlier station on the same site and took over passenger train service from the decaying Gulf, Mobile and Ohio Passenger Terminal. Amtrak continued serving the station when it took over the railroad in 1971. Mobile station was a stop on the Sunset Limited line, and was also the southern terminus of the Gulf Breeze train from 1989 to 1994. In 2005, Hurricane Katrina flooded the station and Amtrak discontinued the Sunset Limited east of New Orleans. In 2006, CSX sold the property to a developer, who razed the station in 2007. The site plan provides for a future station nearby. In 2016 Amtrak said The "Sunset Limited" has been proposed to return in the near future.
