Hewlett said that the character Murdoc is responsible for the majority of the creating of Gorillaz and that he is always angry that he is not the frontman of the band, though he is commonly seen as the band's leader.[3][4] Hewlett has stated that aspects of Murdoc's appearance and personality were based on that of a young Keith Richards.
