Bihar Sharif Nalanda College is a college in Bihar Sharif, the district headquarters of Nalanda District in Bihar state in India. It is a constituent unit of Magadh University. It was established in 1870 and is one of the oldest colleges of north India. Its catchment area includes nearby villages and small towns in BiharSharif. The Government of India issued stamps with its picture in 1970 to mark its centenary.
Nalanda College has a larger campus than most other colleges.
History
Bihar Sharif Nalanda College was founded by Edal Singh, a landlord in Bihar. He had granted 8.7 acres of land for the college. To remember his contribution, his statue is standing in the campus. It was at first under the jurisdiction of the University of Calcutta, then it came under Bihar University, and finally under Magadh University, Bodhgaya. D. P. Singh was appointed principal of the college. After his retirement, Dr. S. N. Sinha took the charge as the principal of this college.[1]
Departments
Nalanda College has many old departments and several new ones.
English Department- It offers Graduation and Post Graduation degrees in a regular way. This department is enriched with five faculties.
As of 2013[update] Swarn Prabhat was the head of the English department.
Hindi Department- It offers the Graduation and Post Graduation degrees in a regular basis. This department has three faculties. As of 2013[update] Dr.ISHWAR CHANDRAwas its head.
Mathematics Department- This department also offers the graduation and post graduation degrees. Dr. Omprakash is the current head of this department.

Notable alumni
- Alok Mishra - Former student of the college, graduated in 2008-11 batch, BA English HONS. Further, Alok completed his post graduation in 2012-14 batch. He is a poet, author and Editor-in-Chief at Ashvamegh. His debut book was Being in Love, a novella.[2][3][4]
- Veer Pratap Singh - Former student of this college, played for Deccan Chargers.
