Negaativa is a trio of female Brazilian Portuguese rappers, Mary Juana, Jamille, and Filipe. In a funk scene dominated by their male counterparts Negaativa has been able to secure some success. Their lyrical content covers a variety of topics, from issues of racism in their homeland to the importance of condom use. The lyrical content in their music is a direct reflection of the oppressed life that they live as lower class blacks in Brazil. Though, just as all of their Brazilian counterparts, Negaativa’s lyrics are open for interpretation by all who listen to them.[1][2][3]
