The Nepal Sadbhavana Party (Nepali: नेपाल सदभावना पार्टी) was a national political party in Nepal now merged into Rastriya Janata Party Nepal that has been working for rights of Madhesi and discriminated communities and groups of Nepal. Its founding was in 1985, as the Nepal Sadbhavana Council, by Gajendra Narayan Singh. In domestic affairs, it aimed at promoting the interests and citizenship of the Madhesi community of the Terai Region, favored the introduction of Maithili as the second national language, and supported the framework of a democratic socialist society. Within the bipolar framework of the Cold War, it is working for the establishment of a special relationship with India and China in the framework of nonalignment. Govinda Sah is central spokesperson of Nepal Sadbhawana Party.

In 1990 it transformed into NSP. NSP took part in several coalition governments in Nepal during the 1990s. At the last legislative elections before the King of Nepal took power, 3 May and 16 May 1999, the party won 3.2% of the popular vote and five out of 205 seats.

In July 2001, Singh reorganised the NSP central committee. Rajendra Mahato was appointed general secretary and Sarita Giri as Central Spokesperson Badri Prasad Mandal and Hridesh Tripathy, both members of parliament, were nominated vice-presidents.Mr. Gauri Shankar Mohpal was appointed as member of Central Committee who held position as Vice president earlier.[1]

Gajendra Narayan Singh died on January 23, 2002. Badri Prasad Mandal was appointed acting party chairman after Singh's death.[2]

At the 4th NSP general convention, held in Rajbiraj in March 2003, the party split into two. A group led by the widow of Singh, Anandi Devi Singh and Hridesh Tripathy broke away and formed the Nepal Sadbhavana Party (Anandi Devi). The remaining group elected Badri Prasad Mandal as the new chairman of the party.[3][4][5] The convention elected a Central Working Committee, consisting of Badri Prasad Mandal, Ramnarayan Yadav, Bisheswor Rajbanshi, Dilip Kumar Dhadewa, Bishwonath Singh Rajbanshi, Chandrakala Singh Kuswah, Manish Kumar Suman, Satyanarayan Yadav, Dipendra Kumar Chaudhary, Sitaram Mandal, Durga Chaudhary, Dr. Dambar Narayan Yadav, Rajkumar Gupta, Laxman Lal Karna, Amrita Agrahari and Devendra Mishra.[6]

In 2007 Mandal was expelled from the party. Laxman Lal Karna became the new party chairman. In June 2007 NSP merged into NSP(A).[7]

The party founded by Singh has divided into numerous parties under Rajendra Mahato, Anil Kumar Jha, Sarita Giri, Bikash Tiwari and Shyam Sundar Gupta.

In 2015 The Nepal Sadbhawana Party led by Sarita Giri and Anil Kumar Jha led Sanghiya Sadbhawna Party have merged to form a single party, Nepal Sadbhawana Party (NSP). Anil Kumar Jha will chair the integrated party (NSP) while Sarita Giri will be its vice chairperson and Rajeev Jha as a General Secretary.[8]

In early October 2015, Sarita Giri quite Nepal Sadbhawana Party.[9][10]

History[edit]

After the historic People's Movement of 1990 A.D. against Panchyati Regime (autocratic ruling by monarchs), Multi Party System was re-established in Nepal and People felt real sense of Democracy for the first time. Citizen of this country get an opportunity to exercise or practice the democratic political norms and values. Nepal Sadbhawana Parishad which was established in the 80’s with basic area of work focused in lobbying the rights of oppressed Madheshi’s also played the vital role in the democratic movement in this country.

Nepal Sadbhawana Parishad[11][edit]

"Parishad" was involved and played a vital role in the People's Movement of 1990 which was led by visionary politician Late Gajendra Narayan Singh. After the restoration of Democracy and Multi-Party System in 1990 A.D. this Socio-Political organization "Nepal Sadbhawana Parishad" transformed itself as a political Party named Nepal Sadbhawana Party (NSP) in 1990 A.D. This Party has completed its 27 Years of democratic struggle journey. During all these years the Party has fully exercised the multi-Party democratic process, norms, and values and kept their peaceful movement continued until now from paving their paths to Parliament and even in Government Cabinet as well. Nepal Sadbhawana Party is a national Party and has been established as a responsible political actor in the Nepalese politics.

Nepal Sadbhawana Party (2015-16)[edit]

Nepal Sadbhawana Party has a long list of achievements and People's oriented work in its 27 Years of glorious political history. It has a long political history adding several years of experience and struggle in Nepal. After the demise of Gajendra Narayan Singh the party’s uniqueness, identity and motives were overshadowed by some of the other Madhesh based parties coming into existence which somehow affected the party’s strength. Also because of some dissatisfaction among the Nepal Sadbhawana Party’s leaders the party broke into several pieces resulting into formation of several “Sadbhawana Parties” named after its mother organization Nepal Sadbhawana Party.[12][13] But last year Nepal Sadbhawana Party (NSP) and Sanghiya Sadbhwana Party (SSP) united to become one as Nepal Sadbhawana Party. This was a historic movement in itself among Madheshi politics and politics of Nepal when several parties were parting their ways because of differences SSP and NSP united to be one.

After unification in last one year Party actively participated in various works which ranges from celebrating Party's Silver Jubilee, actively participated in relief distribution after devastating earthquake in Nepal which took 10000 of lives and left millions homeless etc.

Unifications of Nepal Sadbhawana Party With Other Parties[edit]

There's several speculations always made among Madhesh based political parties that they are merging or suggestions from outside that they should merge. But since the CA Election of 2070 none of the Madhesh based parties succeeded to merge. But the fact is there are some small political parties who still represents in Legislature Parliament and also have participated in CA Election have succeeded to merge and move ahead jointly.

Initially Sanghiya Sadbhawna Party and Nepal Sadbhawana Party merged to become one party as Nepal Sadbhawana Party. Laterally Nepal Sadbhawana Party merged with other Four (4) other smaller parties which are Madhesh Rastra Jantantrik Party (Krantikari), Social Republican Party, Nepal Republican People's Party and Jantantrik Terai Madhesh Mukti Tigers. Besides mentioned political parties unification Nepal Sadbhawana Party also succeeded to welcome some of the prominent figures from Madhesh in its party. Dr. Shiv Shankar Yadav, Ram Narayan Singh, Raman Pandey along with few others joined the party in last 2 years. So, these show that we are in direction of creating more progressive political situation which somehow will have positive impact in the Nepalese politics especially among intellectual groups of Madhesh.

Seeing the current political situation of Nepal we can assume that it's still in the transition phase after the 2062-63 Public Movement and 2072's Constitution declaration. In such circumstances Nepal Sadbhawana Party's Political Unifications in last 2 Years is satisfactory in its own sense because when the big and small political parties here are breaking and uniting more often than ever before. Speaking specifically in young democracies this tends to weaken political parties prospects for survival in often rapidly changing political landscapes and in such scenarios wise political moves is needed with more farsighted strategies.

SN Date of Unification Name of the Party Participation in CA Election: 2013 Secured Votes
1 01/03/2015 Nepal Sadbhawana Party Participated 15,578
2 01/03/2015 Federal Sadbhawana Party Participated 25,215

5 08/04/2016 Jantantrik Terai Madhesh Mukti Tigers Participated 4,370
6 21/11/2016 Social Republican Party Participated 3,360

Once we get unify with few parties convinced and brought veteran leaders like Ram Narayan Singh and Yadubansh Sah who in the past have served in the cabinet of Nepal along with other prestigious posts in the Government of Nepal, convinced and brought whole chapter of J.P Gupta's Led Organization from Siraha, different district level and local level leaders from different Parties in Mahottari, Bara and Rupandehi entered our party. NSP had successfully organized party's 6th General Convention in Janakpur in the month of April 2016. So, the party is continuously engaged in maintaining its strong foothold in the Nepal’s Madheshi politics with motive of serving the people of Nepal specially Madhesh.
