The 1973 New Jersey gubernatorial election was held on November 6, 1973. Democratic nominee Brendan Byrne defeated Republican nominee Charles W. Sandman Jr., who defeated the incumbent William T. Cahill in the Republican primary, with 66.67% of the vote.
