The New York City Rugby League Football Club is an American professional rugby league team. They plan to play in the 2020 RFL League 1 season and will play their home matches at the Red Bull Arena.

History[edit]

News first emerged of a New York City team planning to follow in the footsteps of the Toronto Wolfpack and propose to play in the 2019 RFL League 1 season in 2017, the season which the Toronto Wolfpack begun.[1]

In March 2019 the RFL released a statement regarding Hemel Stags relocating to Canada and a new application to launch a club in New York, both were judged to have the potential to deliver the RFL's strategic vision and further meetings were due to be made in the coming month over the club's financial and business plans.[2]

In April 2019 RFL member clubs voted in principle in favour of New York and Ottawa joining the RFL,[3][4] however a final decision on both applications will be made by the RFL - probably in May 2019.[5]
