Nicolas Aubé-Kubel (born May 10, 1996) is a Canadian professional ice hockey right winger who currently plays under contract for the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was drafted by the Flyers in the second round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

Playing career[edit]

Aubé-Kubel was drafted in the first round, 7th overall, by the Val-d'Or Foreurs in the 2012 QMJHL Entry Draft.[1]

On October 2, 2014, Aubé-Kubel agreed to an entry-level contract with the Philadelphia Flyers who had drafted him in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.[2] On April 4, 2016, Aubé-Kubel was assigned by the Flyers to their American Hockey League affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.[3]

During the 2017–18 season, Aubé-Kubel was suspended three times for hits to the head. He was suspended twice in March and for three games during the 2018 Calder Cup playoffs in May.[4]

After attending the Flyers 2018 training camp and playing in preseason games, Aubé-Kubel was reassigned to the AHL to begin the 2018–19 season.[5] On October 28, Aubé-Kubel was recalled to the NHL for the first time in his professional career.[6] He made his NHL debut on October 30, 2018, against the Anaheim Ducks.[7]

Personal life[edit]

Aubé-Kubel's cousins, T.J. and Thomas, also play hockey.[8] T.J. plays professional hockey for the Guildford Flames in the Elite Ice Hockey League.[9]

Aubé-Kubel's older sister Alex-Ann is a professional figure skater.[10][8]
