Palace of Nations (Tajik: Kohi Millat) also known as the White House[2] is the official residence of the President of Tajikistan,[3][2] The president receives foreign dignitaries at the palace and often holds events at the residence. In front of the presidential palace is the Dushanbe Flagpole, which is the second largest flagpole on earth until 2014.[3] The flagpole is 50 meters above the ground level.[2]

Brief History[edit]

The construction of the Palace began in 2000, and was dedicated to Ismail Samani, a famous Tajik poet. On the eve of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Dushanbe in August 2008, the palace was completed, with the summit events being partially held under the golden dome with 20-meter columns. An image of the palace is imprinted on the back of a 500 Somoni banknote, which is the national currency of Tajikistan.[4]
