Meaning

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Larry Sanger (talk | contribs) at 21:54, 13 February 2002 (Deleting the claim "Meaning is borne by concepts" which was put at the beginning of this article. That's a theory; many deny it. In any case, it deserves discussion, not a single cryptic sentence.). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Meaning is one of the most difficult and complex concepts we have, studied by semantics (a branch of linguistics) and, in its more theoretical aspects, by the philosophy of language (the theory of meaning in particular--branches of philosophy).
