Early life and education
Tran was born May 21, 1983 in Saigon, Vietnam before migrating with his parents to the US and later earned US citizenship. He attended the Mt. Pleasant High School in San Jose, California and later the University of Southern California, where he studied at the Marshall School of Business and Viterbi School of Engineering.
At a young age, Tran trained himself to find white space gaps in markets and after college, went on to establish and subsequently sell a number of lifestyle businesses. He then founded his current business venture MANSCAPED in 2016 after spotting an opportunity to address underserved segments of the market for premium men's grooming products, particularly by tackling some of the more sensitive and stigmatized aspects of men's health and hygiene. Tran's vision at MANSCAPED has helped create a new category of men's below-the-waist grooming products and tools.
Beyond its product focus, MANSCAPED was also conceived by Tran from its inception as a company that would operate with a parallel mission to raise awareness on subjects pertaining to men's health and wellness. Tran has described himself as feeling not just compelled, but having a sense of duty to spread the word about sensitive areas of men's health and refers to MANSCAPED not as a company but a movement that aims to dispel taboos within the men's hygiene and grooming sector. Tran was instrumental in forming the MANSCAPED partnership with the Testicular Cancer Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness for testicular cancer early detection and education.
Thanks to Tran's unabashed approach to men's issues, MANSCAPED has acquired nearly a million followers across its social platforms, and Tran has noted that the growing awareness around male personal hygiene, coupled with the dissipating stigma around talking about it is driving increasingly public debate on social media, further expanding the potential reach of male grooming products. In 2020, Tran has rapidly expanded the online reach of the MANSCAPED brand, significantly extending its direct retail and Amazon marketplace presence in markets such as Australia and New Zealand, and in October, officially expanding its operations to Europe and a total of 30 countries worldwide.
