Pilar Ruiz-Lapuente

Pilar Ruiz-Lapuente (Barcelona, 1964) is an astrophysicist working as a professor in University of Barcelona. In 1998, she was one of the members of the Supernova Cosmology Project, which determined the likelihood of an accelerating universe. In 2004, she led the team that discovered the companion star to the white dwarf that resulted in famous supernova SN 1572, observed among others by Tycho Brahe. In 2007, she received the Gruber Prize in Cosmology along with her colleagues of the Supernova Cosmology Project for their 1998 discovery.
