Current events of July 20, 2001 (2001-07-20) (Friday) Vanessa Leggett is found in contempt by a Federal Court for refusing to release notes made for her book on the Doris Angleton murder. The 27th G8 summit takes place in Genoa, Italy until July 22nd. Massive demonstrations against the meeting by anti-globalisation groups. One demonstrator, Carlo Giuliani, is shot dead by a carabiniere and several others are badly injured during an attack by the police on a school which the protesters were using as their headquarters. Current events of July 21, 2001 (2001-07-21) (Saturday) Akashi pedestrian bridge accident: At the conclusion of a fireworks display on Okura Beach in Akashi, Hyōgo, Japan, 11 people are killed and more than 120 are injured when a pedestrian footbridge connecting the beach to JR Asagiri railway station becomes overcrowded and people leaving the event fall down in a domino effect.
