Dogs have been used in warfare since ancient times. Americans began using military dogs in the Seminole Wars and Civil War. Marines have used working dogs extensively in WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and the Middle East. Marine used dogs as scouts, messengers, and sentries in the past; while modern working dogs are used mostly in law enforcement, explosives/drug detection, tracking/sentry, or Search and rescue.
