Religion portals[edit]

I've noticed you've created quite a plethora of religion-based portals. In accordance with the conventions currently being discussed at WPT:P, I would like you to confirm that you intend to maintain all of these portals (I believe at least 6 are accredited to you at present), and that you intend to improve them in order to bring them up to the standard that is requested and required in order to maintain their presence in the namespace. While major religions are fairly high-volume and require suitable portals, several of the recent ones you have made are fairly irrelevant and definitely not high volume. While you have clearly put work into their creation, I feel obliged to let you know that several are liable to be removed from the namespace unless they demonstrate their necessity through extensive links either by articles or through the category system.

Finally, I must also point out that most of your portals are not listed at either WP:P or Portal:Browse, both of which are requirements stated at WP:P. Please feel free to contact me should you wish to discuss these matters further.

Religion Portals[edit]

Someone said that he will delete the religious portals I set up if I don't do this and that. Will you please update the religious portals to confirm to whatever standards. Also, please help maintain the portals. Any advice, suggestions, etc are appreciated. Maybe I shouldn't have wasted my time with creating the portals. While creating the portals, I ensured that all information was accurate. These are the religious portals I established. -> Islam · Buddhism · Hinduism · Sikhism · Bahá'í Faith · Jainism · Shinto · Confucianism · Taoism · Zoroastrianism --JuanMuslim 1m 21:22, 5 December 2005 (UTC)

Category:Dharmic Religion stubs proposed for deletion[edit]

Category:Dharmic Religion stubs has been nominated for deletion (see the discussion. The principal argument offered for deletion is that the category currently contains only 4 articles. A number of Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism etc. stubs deal with topics that are common to all Dharmic religions. These stubs might be profitably moved to Category:Dharmic Religion stubs rather than those of a specific religion. If you have opinions on whether any particular stub article should be recategorized, or whether you would approve of a recategorization on your behalf, please discuss at Category talk:Dharmic religions#Category:Dharmic Religion stubs proposed for deletion. --BostonMA talk 01:09, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Portal peer review[edit]

This has been inactive for several months, so I'm closing it. If anyone wants to reboot it, please create a new page and contact the people on this list. Sven Manguard Wha? 21:26, 4 November 2013 (UTC)

I would like to nominate this portal for Featured Portal. Please provide suggestions on how to make this portal ready for it. Rahuljain2307 (talk) 17:57, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

Comments from Sven Manguard

I apologize in advance for how long and intimidating this list is going to be.

  1. There are only six selected articles. There really ought to be 20, using FA and GA quality articles whenever possible.
  2. There are only six selected biographies. Like selected articles, there really ought to be 15 to 20, using FA and GA quality articles whenever possible.
  3. There are only six selected pictures. There really out to be 15 to 20, using English Wikipedia FPs, Commons FPs, QIs, and VIs whenever possible. If there's a shortage, you still need to make sure that the images are of high quality.
  4. One of the selected images is used as an image in a selected article. You can use very similar images, but using the same one multiple times isn't advisable, because it doesn't look good if the same image winds up on the front of the portal in multiple sections at the same time.
  5. If you're going to do a selected scripture section, you really need to have more than one to select from. At least 10, although as with everything else, 20 is the goal.
  6. I think you should take the DYK section and break it down into sets of five, that rotate out randomly like 'selected _____' sections do.
  7. You need to make sure that all of the items within a section (i.e. all of the articles within selected articles or all of the biographies in selected biographies) are roughly the same size. That way, the portal is the same shape when items switch out.
  8. You should try and keep the images in the corners of the 'selected _____' sections the same size, also because it helps the portal keep shape. You can have the images in Selected Articles larger than those in Selected Biographies, but all of the articles within the Selected Articles section should be the same size.

I know this seems like a lot, but once you get in a rhythm, it goes by very quickly. You can build up a portal to a high level in about a week and a half, and from there, it's just a matter of polish to take it to FPO status. Sven Manguard Wha? 02:02, 20 January 2013 (UTC)

New Image Nomination + Shravanabelagola/Chandragiri Structure Labels[edit]

Hi there, I just contributed what I feel is a fairly good quality panorama image of an important Jain site, Chandragiri Hill at Shravanabelagola. Most but not all of the major structures at Chandragiri are clearly visible in the image and it should be a good way to stimulate adding more information on those. I would like to propose the image is added to the selected pictures list for Jainism that is available from the portal and ask for help adding more information. prat (talk) 04:02, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

New Image Nomination[edit]

I would also like to nominate another image I took of the bird, tree and panorama at the Tirumalai site's peak to the same Jain portal selected images list. prat (talk) 04:04, 22 April 2013 (UTC)
