Giani Zail Singh Campus College of Engineering and Technology (GZS CCET)now changed to Maharaja Ranjit Singh State Technical university(MRSSTU), Bathinda is the first institute in Punjab established with the full funding of state government in the year 1989 when the Hon’ble Governor of Punjab Sh. S.S.Ray laid the foundation stone on 23 October 1989. Initially set up as Government Engineering College, it was converted to an autonomous institute as Giani Zail Singh College of Engineering and Technology (GZSCET) in year 1992 and a “Board of Governors” was constituted to manage the affairs of the College. The Chairman of “Board of Governors” is the Hon’ble Minister of Technical Education and the other members of “Board of Governors” includes industrialists, academicians and representatives of the State Government. The college has been made as constituent college of Punjab Technical University in 2011 but in 2015 it has been elevated to be a campus of new university Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University a second constituent of Punjab Technical University. Due to this the name of college has been recently updated. The Campus provides an academic environment under the guidance of faculty. It is named after Giani Zail Singh, the seventh President of India.

Set up as Government Engineering College, it was converted to an autonomous institute in 1992 and a Board of Governors was constituted to manage the affairs of the College. The Chairman of the Board of Governors is the Chief Executive for technical education in the state, and the other members include industrialists, academicians, and senior representatives of the state government. The college was affiliated with the Punjab Technical University since 2011 but in 2015 it has been made campus of new university named "Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University". Initially the college was inaugurated approximately 4 years before NIT Jalandhar. It is semi autonomous in nature.

This College has been made as constituent college of Punjab Technical University in 2011 with the aim to put emphasis on Post Graduate studies and Doctoral Research. It is now with the objective to play pivotal role in producing technical manpower being the second campus of Punjab Technical University.[1]

The college is located on the outskirts of Bathinda on Dabwali road. It is:

  • 7 km from the railway station.
  • 5 km from the bus stand.
  • 210 km from Chandigarh.
  • 300 km from Delhi by rail and 345 km by bus.

The college is affiliated to Maharaja Ranjit Singh State Technical University and follows semester system of education. Each academic year is divided into two semester- July/August to December and January to June/July. University examinations are held at the end of each semester.
