The 14th Annual Puteri Indonesia (sometimes called Miss Indonesia Universe) Pageant, was held in Teater Tanah Airku, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, Jakarta, Indonesia on Friday, October 9, 2009[1]. Zivanna Letisha Siregar, Puteri Indonesia 2008 from Jakarta Special Capital Region 6 crown her successor at the end of this event. About 38[2] contestants from 33 provinces was compete for the title and the pageant that broadcast live on Indosiar and live streaming on selebtv.com and kompastv.com. Previously, Puteri Indonesia 2009 finalists undergo quarantine period, which runs from 28 Sept - October 8, 2009, at Hotel Nikko Jakarta. Grand Final of Puteri Indonesia 2009 was attended by Miss Universe 2009 Stefania Fernandez. The winner of Puteri Indonesia 2009 is Qory Sandioriva, and she will represent Indonesia in Miss Universe 2010 and runner up 1, Zukhriatul Hafizah will represent Indonesia in Miss International 2010.

Historical significance
- Aceh becomes the third Sumateran province to win Puteri Indonesia title, since Artika Sari Devi of Bangka Belitung wins the title in 2004 and Melanie Putria of West Sumatera wins it in 2002.
- West Sumatera, last placed in 2007, and it is the highest placement since Melanie Putria won in Puteri Indonesia 2002.
- East Java placed for 4 consecutive year.
- Jakarta SCR 4 placed for 3 consecutive year.
- Jakarta SCR 6 placed for 2 consecutive year.
- West Java last placed in 2005, and both of West Javanese representatives in 2005 and 2009 won the Talent Award.
- West Papua placed into the top 10 for first time, and also won Miss Congeniality and Miss Favorite for the first time.
- Banten last placed in 2004.
- North Maluku last placed in 2002.
- It is the first time since 2004, that no one candidate from Jakarta Special Capital Region make to the top 3.
- In 2002, Melanie Putria of West Sumatera won Puteri Indonesia title and Rissa Susmex of Aceh became first runner up. Seven years later, the opposite happened. Qory Sandioriva of Aceh won the title and Zukhriatul Hafizah of West Sumatra became first runner up.
- Bangka Belitung both of them representatives in 2008 and 2010 won the Special Award as Puteri Indonesia Sumatera Island.
Replacements
- Papua : Marcelina D Rahawarin actually was crowned Puteri Indonesia Papua 2009[42] on June 1, 2009. But she replaced by 1st runner up Puteri Indonesia Papua 2009 Dela Pria Silvia Werinussa for some reasons.

- Nadia Zahara(East Java) is Former East Java Tourism Ambassador in 2004 (known as Raki 2004), she also now become News Presenter in Local TV in East Java.
- Coreana Agashi (Jakarta Special Capital Region 6) was a teen magazine's cover girl on 2003.
- Grace Joselini C. Setiawan (East Kalimantan) was competed in Miss Indonesia (World) 2009 last June.
