Robert Jahrling (born 14 February 1974) is a German-born Olympic-level rower, who has competed for Australia. He won a silver medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics in the men's VIII.[1]
Education
Jahrling attended Newington College (1991-1992) [2] and was coached by Robert Buntine and Michael Morgan. He holds a BA (Commerce - Masters in International Finance; Accounting; Marketing; Management) from Monash University where he graduated in 2000.
Rowing
Jahrling represented Australia in three Olympic Games, Atlanta 1996 (6th); Sydney 2000 (2nd); and Athens 2004 (4th). Jahrling also represented Australia in 7 Rowing World Championships (1993, 1994, 1995, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2002) as well as 3 Commonwealth Regattas (1 Gold, 1 Silver, 1 Bronze). In 2000 Jahrling won the Grand Challenge Cup as part of the Men's Eight at the Henley Royal Regatta in London and in 2002 a Bronze Medal at World Championships in Barcelona in the Men's Coxed Pairs event. At national level Jahrling won 7 National Championships, the Kings Cup in 2004 and 21 NSW State Championship titles. Rob Jahrling is a 5x NSW Rower of the Year recipient and has been involved in fund raising activities for Step to the Future and Mission Australia. Jahrling is a Honorary Life Member of Sydney Rowing Club and a member of the Olympians Club of Australia. He was awarded the Keys to the City of Sydney as part of the 2000 Olympic Team and in 2002 he won the Australian National Sports Star award for achievements in both sport and career.
Career
Since 2000, Jahrling has worked as an investment banker for Credit Suisse in Australia and Deutsche Bank in Hong Kong. Jahrling is a Director at Citi in Australia where he is the Head of Equity Syndicate.
